Jazz is created from a dozen music sources... African, French, Caribbean, mountain, Cajun, and more from the ships that came into New Orleans port during its heyday as a world shipping center. All of those notes formed a unique sound that has been added to and grown into a major American sound heard around the world. Dixieland or traditional jazz is still heard and enjoyed at rousing jazz festivals by a dedicated audience and we are bringing that experience to the Peninsula….right here you will be able to enjoy live national trad festival quality music... and tap along or sing along or dance to it! Music you will recognize from remembered lullabies to todays innovations in Dixieland and swing! Even second line marching tunes will appear that are being used in New Orleans celebrations today! Be prepared to come, listen and enjoy!
And, perhaps, even more music from the national festival circuit will be offered so keep watching for news of jazz history sets, swing, country/western options and more.
Great bands, great music …played live right in our corner of the world….come listen!
— A sentiment shared by audiences from New Orleans to London to SequimThe great names of the era — Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, Sidney Bechet — didn't just play music. They invented a language. Trad jazz bands today speak that same language, keeping it living, breathing, and swinging for new audiences who discover, often with surprise and delight, that this hundred-year-old music still has the power to make your foot move before your brain has caught up.
"Jazz is the music of the body. The rhythm of jazz is the pulse of life itself — irregular, surprising, and absolutely insistent."
